Paris Continued – April 18, 2018

We slept late and got up about 7 am and took our time getting ready. This trip has taken its toll on is physically. I think Santorini did us in since the entire populated part of the island is nearly vertical. Stairs and more stairs. So, we decided this trip to Paris was going to be as relaxing as we could possibly make it.

We left the apartment about 8:30 this morning and walked across the Seine specifically to go to an open market on Rue Woodrow Wilson. But before that, we found a cafe nearby the market area for an amazing breakfast.

I just need to say one thing before I go on. We are constantly hearing from other Americans about how rude Parisiens are and I have to say that after a number of visits to Paris, we have never found that to be true. We have always been treated with respect and have made many friends during our trips here. We made more friends at lunch today, French people who called us by name when we left, shook our hands or even hugged and kissed us. I believe that you get treated the way you treat others. The people of Paris are always friendly to us and we are friendly right back. That’s why we love this city so much.

The Woodrow Wilson market had everything you might need. Fresh seafood (that in many cases was still alive), meats, cheese, wine, bread, fresh vegetables, clothing. Really, whatever you need. We bought some prociutto, cheese, a baguette, wine, a gorgeous mango, as well as some clothing and jewelry items. Good prices, friendly people, and a great experience. The market is held only on Wednesday and Saturday.

On the way there and back, we stopped to take some pictures and pay respects at the unofficial Princess Diana memorial. It was created above the traffic tunnel where she was killed. Plus, there are some places to get some beautiful pictures of the Seine and the Eiffel Tower.

We had a beautiful lunch of pasta, onion soup, wine, French bread, espresso. It’s always an event to eat any meal in France. Our waiters were fabulous and very friendly. We exchanged information and promised to email each other to stay in contact. What place this is!

After lunch we decided to simply come back to the apartment and rest. Resting is something I tend to forget about doing but Pat watches out for both of us. She’s terrific.

We have a driver picking us tonight to take pictures of Paris at night. They don’t call this place the City of Lights for nothing.
