Our country appears to be racing down a perilous path, moving at breakneck speed toward uncertainty. Some people dismiss my daily anxiety, saying that my concerns are nothing more than “whistling in the wind,” and are futile against the tide of events. Some suggest that since I have no direct control over national decisions, I should simply disengage, stop paying attention, and let things run their course.
But such indifference is not in my nature. The answer to why I continue to care is simple: I am a citizen of this nation, and with that citizenship comes both a privilege and a duty. I want the best for my fellow Americans, for the generations that will inherit this land, and for the principles upon which our country was founded. Turning my back on the challenges before us would be turning my back on the very ideals I spent my life defending.
Throughout my life, I’ve been dedicated to the well-being of the United States, as a member of the U.S. military and the Department of Homeland Security, while upholding the Constitution. To me, those values are not just abstract words on parchment—they are the living heartbeat of our Republic. To remain silent in the face of troubling times would be a betrayal of the responsibilities that come with living in a free society. Concern is not weakness, and engagement is not folly. It is the essence of citizenship to care, to speak, and to strive for a brighter course, even when it feels like the odds are against us.
The nation needs voices that are willing to speak, eyes that are willing to see, and hands that are willing to work for its betterment. As long as I’m alive, I will continue to do my part, insignificant as it may seem, because the future of our country depends on the collective will of its citizens to uphold the ideals that make America worth preserving. If we are indifferent, we don’t deserve the benefits our beautiful country provides all of us.
“I will protect my country. I will not let enemy armies pass through it.” – Zechariah 9:8
